Two finger Page Scrolling in Ubuntu

If you have a laptop, there's a feature in Ubuntu 9.10 (not sure if it existed before but seems basic enough to be present in earlier versions) that lets you scroll a page vertically and horizontally using two fingers. Mac users are probably already used to this feature.

To enable this, Click on System>Preferences>Mouse. Then choose the Touchpad tab. Here you have setting to enable Two finger scrolling or edge scrolling (default) or disable them both. Next to them is the option to enable horizontal scrolling (hardly ever needed)

How-to: Nokia N95 8Gb Album Art

This here is a short tip i found somewhere to automatically assign album art to albums on your N95 8gb (probably works on other sets too, please leave comments).

Check it out after after the jump.

1. Get the latest Nokia PC suite.
2. Open "Transfer music" module in the PC Suite
3. Connect your phone in pc suite mode
3. Build your collection by scanning your hd for mp3 files. (Skip this step if you already have a collection)
4. In the Options>Settings Menu item goto the conversion tab and choose automatically for conversion setting and AAC as the format and choose your required bitrate (I chose 160 kbps)
5. Select the files that you want to transfer to your phone from the "All Music" Group. While selecting the files if you can see the album art for the files at the bottom of the window then you're good to go.
6. In the file menu choose transfer to > your phone name.
7. After the transfer are complete check the album art in your phone.

This only works if the files already have album art assigned to them. I'd suggest using either Windows Media player (for windows) or Amarok (for linux). Amarok automatically fetches album art and is quite fast. If you have any other program that auto fetches album art please leave a comment.

Since i was restarting my blog i really wanted a good/light weight software for instant blogging, and I mostly use Ubuntu, upon googling i found a nice panel applet for my use, gnome-blog. It sticks to your panel and features 1-click blog posting. It's available in the default ubuntu repository or you could get the source from here. Turns out linux is SO much better than windows that it even passes the windows genuine advantage test !!! So if u need any wga-required tools you can use ubuntu to get them. Of course after a while you'll realize you don't need to use windows AT ALL ! :)

Recently my comptuer had been freezing alot ! i checked and one of the hard disks had problems since on startup it'd make weird noises. It had never happened before ! I checked and turns out it was overheating. So i tried cooling the room without actually opening the system, which resulted in another hard disk failing !!! Turns out the video card's fan had sort of burnt off and it was creating all the heat !! Need a new system now :(
